人はよく彼女の作品を評して「この世のものというよりかは天上的なほど静穏に、官能的な美しさをもち、けれど奇妙でどこか不気味、奇抜な可笑しささえある」と言う。 武士の家系の伝統を重んじつつも型破りな両親は、彼女に幼い頃より日舞、能、茶道、華道、江戸小唄を習わせると同時に、“社会教育”と称し国内外のあらゆる遊芸三昧の場に付き添わせ、普遍性を尊重する国際人として育てる事に熱心だった。究極の和洋折衷というカラフルな生い立ちの記憶が、下條の創造性の原点であると言えるだろう。 １９９６年渡米。現在は、ブルックリンのスタジオとハワイの秘境にある隠れ家、という両極端なジャングルの行き来を自己のイン＆ヤンのバランスとして楽しんでいる。言葉にできぬ感情を抽象画で、地球の裏と表を旅した経験は絵日記で、独特のユーモアを大切にしたイラストレーションでは自分の中のエンターテイメント性を表現できたら良いと思っている。 下條ユリはまた、世界各地の土着文化に共通する固有のシャーマニズムに興味を持ち、そのヒーリング・アートをエネルギーワークの研究者として学んでいる。アメリカ政府公認パーマカルチャリスト。B型魚座。水に浮くのが好き。 主な著書に、波瀾に富んだ家族との生い立ちを綴った追想記『ちいさならくがき』（１９９７年 ビクターブックス刊、２００７年 たまうさぎbooksにて復刊）、『メキシコ・中米のけぞり旅行記』（塩谷卓也氏との共著：２００１年 光進社）。 [+/-] More.. Yuri has been expressing her life through painting, journaling and dancing since she was three years old. Yuri's works often depict the ethereal, serene, sensual , exquisite yet grotesque, ominous and even whimsical. Born in the spring of year of the fire horse, her upbringing in Tokyo was a very unconventional one. As part of her samurai lineage inheritance, she practiced Japanese traditional arts such as tea ceremony, flower arrangement with Kabuki and Noh theatrical dance performance for many years, which was unique in modern Japanese childhood. Her late "flamboyant" parents were also passionate to teach Yuri to value universal identity through travels abroad and uninhibited performance and social events. These elements, so drastically colorful, have influenced her work throughout her entire life. Now, living the nomadic bohemian lifestyle, Yuri explores the planet from the heart of metropolis to the outposts all over the world being guided by her own intuition, hopping between her home base and studio in Brooklyn to her tropical “boonie” hideaway in Hawaii. These extreme opposites from jungle to urban life balances her creative & spiritual yin and yang always bringing new sources of inspiration. In addition to her personal fine artwork, Yuri is drawn to the world of indigenous cultures, which has led her studying universal shamanism as an energy worker. Yuri is also a certified permaculturist. Yuri Shimojo has published several books in Japan, including: "Makkana Mangetsu~Crimson Full Moon"(1995), which showcase her earlier illustration works, "Vagabonds" (2001), a journal work from her trip in Central America and Mexico, and "Chiisana Rakugaki~Tiny Scribble" (1997), an autobiography of her unique childhood, which has republished in 2007. 先日ちょっと東京に帰った時、Chaz Bojorques のライブペインティングに行った。 I went to the live painting performance of Chaz Bojorques in Tokyo the other day. (thanx for the photos 2 Akio IIdahhhsh…)
Sincere audience from some hard core Japanese graf scene showed their deep respect to this “God Father of Graffiti” from LA. The whole vibe created the venue into almost like a church rather than just an live performance event.
んでね、おそらくその会場にいた日本のグラフ界の人々にはまったく知られていないと思うんですが、その会場でおそらく浮いていた、このハワイのジャングルから来たオネエサンは、最近この伝説的な方とLAから発信する反戦・平和ポスター展 Yo! What happened to Peace ?で最新作をコラボレーションしたのです。CHAZが文字、わたしが絵。もうYo!展ではすでにおなじみの前作”Peace Of Shit”と同様、平和の象徴である鳩を描きました。でも今回はその鳩が、自らの羽で殺されています。前作と今作を相対させ、矛盾を比喩として表現してみたつもりです。CHAZの男性的戦士のエネルギーと私の女性的武士のエネルギーが現れた本作、本人たちそしてYo!展のディレクターのJohn Carrもみな、良いコラボレーションができた、と満足しています。 May be none of the audience there wouldn’t know about this sistah from Hawaiian jungle, who would look little bit off from the graf scene had an honorable opportunity to collaborate with this legend artist from LA. We made an anti war poster for Yo! What Happened to Peace exhibition. CHAZ did letters, I did the wounded dove. As well as my previous piece ” Peace of Shit”, I use the same motif dove as the representative of peace. But this time the dove is killed by his own feather. I wanted to try to create some contradictive metaphor between two works. Beautifully silkscreened in Silver and gold. |
